Inspiration to be an Outdoor Entrepreneur
Outdoor Entrepreneur – “One day I will get paid too fish” – LinkedIn Profile
Times had become pretty bad for me emotionally and things in my head were just out of balance. I needed inspiration. I had been recently divorced. I was starting to question my significance in the cosmos (the arrangement of things). Then my mother who had brought me so much in life, especially teaching me to cook, lost her long battle with cancer.
This all happened in less than a 6 month window. I was crushed but working hard to stay strong. I think. Thank God my bosses at the time (and the guys who introduced me to bow hunting), Todd Johnson and Buddy Bender were so understanding. Their support is what kept me from loosing it completely.
Really, I pretended to stay strong on the outside, but internally my guts hurt and my mind chatter just kept getting louder and louder. Mind chatter was completely taking over and it sucked. My mind is a wonderful place to visit. At this stage in my life, you just wouldn’t want to go their alone.
I remember when things got really bad for me I just couldn’t seem to put together a positive thought, outcome, or scenario. Who knows how that all happens? I just wanted a bunch of answers to a bunch of whys? They weren’t coming. They are bad questions to ask. I didn’t know this at the time. It’s hard to describe unless you’ve been there, but my world got really, really, small. I was afraid, broken, and without hope.

Life wasn’t horrible I just could not drum up any kind of joy, excitement, or fun. Some call it depression. I knew it was. I just figured it would pass. And of course it didn’t. It got worse. Much worse.
Then depressions little friend anxiety decided to join the party in my head and body. The head anxiety was debilitating yes. However, the physical manifestation in my physiology was far worse. Outside of the things I absolutely had to do, my world became decreasingly smaller. I needed some serious inspiration. Little did I know that my confounded understanding of the bimodal existence (mind and body working in symphony), would be the basis for my content creation today. I continued my search for inspiration because the one thing I held on to was that I was worth something to someone.
Inspiration comes in the Oddest Ways
One winter day in 2008 I searched for “inspiration” on my phone while soaking in my hot tub overlooking Boise, Idaho. Like I said, life wasn’t horrible. I had luxury problems. I was soaking in a hot tub for shits sake. Then Boom the most amazing guy popped in my search a few spots down the suggested Google rankings. This straight shootin shit talker from Bellarouse with a New Jersey accent. I loved him right away. You see what I needed was straight talking! I needed the truth. And that video gave me just that. Most critically it was coupled with something I will never forget. HOPE.
Yes I can pinpoint a single You Tube video (that I have watched at least 50 times since), for giving me hope. The Hope I needed to just get moving. To just do something…..anything.
Outdoor Start Up Help – Give em’ HOPE
That guy in the video whom unbeknownst to me, was going to be the basis for my inspiration in my quest to become an Outdoor Entrepreneur. And one day provide other entrepreneurs Outdoor Startup Help. If you haven’t already made him, he is none other than; Gary Vaynerchuk. That’s right Gary Vee. I had never heard of him and back then. You probably hadn’t either. I watched this Web 2.0 YouTube video over and over. I have subsequently shared it with thousands. Maybe 10’s of thousands.
The Reasons I’m Helping Others Get Started as an Outdoor Entrepreneur
- I’m writing this because what this one 17 minute video gave me was two critical life inspirations. It took so little effort on my part to receive this gift.
- Hope that I could become an entrepreneur one day no matter my situation that day.
- The realization that I wanted more than anything to do something like Gary was doing. More specifically, the realization that one day I really wanted someone to say to me, “Thanks Christopher! You gave me inspiration when I needed it most. You changed my life.” Or, “You helped me to get off my ass and do something when I really had no desire to do anything at all.” Or “You helped me not quit.” It’s weird but to me it means a ton.
Watching and reading Gary’s books and content led to a myriad of other learning experiences. As a matter of fact it led to many great relationships with the Internet Brat Pack (post forthcoming on who and what the Internet Brat Pack is/are).
OK I wrote this a long time ago and was afraid to post it but lately friends like Cory Glauner, Mike Betts, Andrew Warner, Brian Call, Marc Warnke, and Russ Meyer have encouraged me to share more of who I am. They encouraged me to JUST put it out there. As a matter of fact it is exactly what the Internet Brat Pack had been teaching me from the start.
1. To say this to anyone who is looking for inspiration to become an outdoor entrepreneur. You can and should do it. Whatever it is you want out of life. Start it as a business. Write a book. Loose 50lbs., whatever you want: and Gary Vee is a great resource for inspiration and content. Just do something now. But start it TODAY RIGHT NOW.
2. To say to Gary Vee. Thank you so much for inspiring me when I needed it most! You got me started! I’m grateful for you. I got off my ass and did something. A lot of things really. If you haven’t heard it today, hear it from me. You help way more people then you know. Keep it up.
As an effect of this little drop of inspiration I own 3 businesses today. And although I am not yet to that place where I might inspire millions, I may very well inspire tens!
I am feeling great today and have for 6 or 7 years now and I can say that no matter what I feel like every day, I will never squander another minute as long as I live. You see I remember what it was like to stand near the gates of hell for what seemed like forever and I am grateful to be back!
If you have lost your way and you need some one to talk to put it in the comments and I will do my best to encourage you. If you are to scared to post in the comments and would like to have me contact you just tell me how to contact you, that’s ok too. It’s a process, I am willing to make it happen. I said many years ago that I would help anyone, anytime, any place if they were one ounce of willing to work at getting to a better place. Today I stand by that promise.
